Logistics: From Container to Field

Gains:

  • Explains the impact of shipment planning on the project schedule
  • Knows the risks of packaging and loading decisions
  • Understands the impact of customs and delivery method on liability

A mill consists of hundreds of parts and is often shipped in multiple containers. If the assembly order and loading order do not match, the field waits.

Planning principles

  • Installation according to the assembly order: the equipment to be installed must be open first.
  • Parts list and container matching: which part is in which box, registered.
  • Sensitive equipment separate packaging: screen cloths, sensors, panels.
  • Moisture and impact protection: long sea voyages and handling.
  • Replacement fastener: stops bolt assembly lost in the field.

Delivery method

Determining the delivery method (EXW, FOB, CIF, DAP, etc.) is not only a matter of price but also of liability: this determines when the risk of damage passes to the other party. It should be clearly written in the contract and insurance should be made accordingly.

Notify the site of the container opening order in advance. Opening and unloading the wrong container costs two days and a crane.
